Syho is a first person shooter game for ME-OS. The game mostly revolves around M.O.G. fighting the evasive Konetz and its projections while going crazy from anger. Different areas become swarmed with husks created by Konetz itself in an attempt to dominate and rule SP while making M.O.G. spiral into complete insanity.

The idea for this game was around before ME-OS was even conceptualized. However due to problems with 3D modelling, it is one of the hardest games to develop on the whole OS.

Gameplay

Syho is organized into episodes, where each episode is a story to play through. Each episode consists of a collection of levels in which the objective is to either get to an exit point or slay a boss enemy. While only starting out with a punch for an attack, weapons can also be collected as well as ammunition for them. Here is a list of the weapons in the game:

  • Punch
  • Megatooth (slasher weapon)
  • Ruchka (pistol)
  • Dvazol (shotgun)
  • Pureshot (sniper)
  • Lipkun (burst needle weapon)
  • Machzuka (infinity core grenade launcher)
  • Pyroseal (flame thrower)
  • Pushser (laser cannon)

Sometimes, keys are scattered around levels that can help progress the player, or get them to a necessary location. There are also certain secrets to come by, such as hidden entrances, enemies, and even sub levels.

Plot

Episode 1

M.O.G. feels very disturbed and aggravated as he feels something strange is happening around Krasnodom. He had faced husks there once before, but they escaped after he fled the area and haven't returned until now. He decides to go sweep the whole building and the surrounding area, but approaching it amplifies his swarming negative feelings, causing him to take on the Syhoform. While trying not to succumb to blind rage, M.O.G. blasts through all husks that get in the way, while also taking on robots built by Konetz and eventually Konetz itself.

For some inexplicable reason, the designs of the robots sent by Konetz also heavily resemble those that were fought during the 2005 Machine War.

Development

The story as well as locations and items in this game were the first thing to be developed. The premise existed a long time before the game was conceived, but the order of locations had to be determined to suit the game. Music was the next thing that came into development. At first, the idea for the music was to make it heavy metal styled with modern instruments, but after some experimentation, it was decided that the music will be made entirely with basic MIDI instruments to give the game an old PC feel.

The most difficult part of development is modelling, as Octopus58 does not have a lot of professional 3D experience.

Music

The music in the game is composed by Octopus58. All the songs are also made entirely with basic MIDI instruments to give the game a retro PC game feel.

Trivia

  • Majority of the locations that the first episode has (with the exception of the lifts and Zholtalist) occurred in a dream and were added to SP around 2016.
  • While Konetz is fought multiple times through the Syho story, the last battle with Konetz is in an alternate timeline between it and Guppy.
