Skumbra plants grow at the bottom of cold oceans, and are notable for their taste similarity to horse mackerel.
Description
Skumbra plants live in cold oceans, and grow from a small kelp like green base. Once matured, the plant has two intertwined "serpents" that can be plucked, and new ones will grow in their place. These serpents taste just like horse mackerel, while the leafy base tastes like a mix of basil and kale.
Uses
Both the serpents and the base are used for food. The pluckable serpents are a very common horse mackerel substitute, while the base is used as a herb in different dishes. A common tasty dish made with Skumbra, is a type of sushi where the raw Skumbra serpents are pickled, layered with ginger and some herbs, and put over sushi rice. It is sometimes later wrapped in banana leaves.
