Portal Dreams is an in development game by Octopus58 for ME-OS based on the Portal Dreams Project. It is an explorative adventure game focused on exploring different worlds found through the portals that were created in attempts to find and locate Earth.

This game has no "true" objective besides collecting different useable items/tools, and learning about the worlds you explore. The items you collect can either be used for fun (in single player and multiplayer), or to explore parts of worlds that were previously unreachable before using other means (such as the Portal Shot, that can shoot portals).

Development

The development of this game started around early 2022, with its first accessible beta load available in version 0.0.52 (released September 30th 2022). It was a unique case in ME-OS that the game was built with multiplayer in priority, meaning that a lot of things were designed to function well online. The first world made for the game was yellow city due to it being a recent new location in SP at the time, and also to test some online functionality such as online synchronized cars, time, etc.. A lot of ME-OS network functionality actually derived from experiments with Portal Dreams, such as prop instantiation improvements, network terminals for synchronizing important host variables, and more.

Somewhere around the middle of 2022, the Hyo.it world began development, which was another unique concept. The world was going to be based off of Hyochan's music, with different areas transitioning into different songs. The first region of the world that started getting development was Carrot Kingdom.

Around November of 2023, the tools system started being implemented with the first available tool, the Portal Shot. It was chosen for being one of the most complex ideas thought of at the time, since it would help idealize how the online functionality of tools would work.

Music

The music in this game varies from world to world. In the Hyo.it world, all songs are by the composer Hyochan, and the world is based around his music in general.
