Mernie Smash is a 2D arcade game by Octopus58 for the Zelomedia Splash game collection on ME-OS as part of the 0.0.58 update. It revolves on how far Mernie can hit Mot and Driki along the coast of the Zelosian Ocean.
Gameplay

In this game, the player controls Mernie, who is equipped with a baseball bat. You can select whether you want to launch Mot or Mernie, who have slightly different stats from each other. Mot has a round collider so a bigger area to bounce on, but slightly less bounciness, while Driki has a capsule shaped collider but slightly more bounciness. Once the game starts, the player has to drop the launchable creature, and time a hit with Mernie's bat. Depending on what angle Mernie smashed the creature with, the creature will go flying at a certain speed and direction. As Mot or Driki get launched through the coast, the background loops infinitely and sometimes balloons and trampolines randomly spawn. Both propel the creature even further. The objective is to get the highest score by travelling the longest possible distance before the creature slows down.
The time of the day changes in the game from day time to sunset, then to night time, and then to dawn before going back to day time again. It is somewhat synchronized with the theme track for the game playing in the background called "Beachside Blasting".
Development
This game started development for ME-OS shortly after the release of version 0.0.57, somewhere in August or September of 2024. It was put on hold while certain other areas of the OS were undergoing big changes such as SP Struct's Guppy's Quest builder were getting more attention, as well as the massive 0.0.58 UI update. However it resumed development in early 2025, and was finished closer towards the middle of April 2025. The day night cycle was implemented as the last feature, due to some uncertain things with the soundtrack at the time. When the theme song "Beachside Blasting" was being made for the game, it was decided to make the song feel long as if a lot of time was passing. This included segments that sounded more lively and day like, and a slightly darker trance segment. Due to this it was decided that a day time cycle that would go along with the song would be a nice addition.

Trivia
- The inspiration for this game came from similar games where you launch a creature and see how far it goes. These were somewhat popular in the mid 2000s.
